LontarI am the founding editor of LONTAR, a biannual literary journal devoted to spreading awareness of and celebrating non-realist writing from and about Southeast Asia. The journal is published by Epigram Books in Singapore.

Poetry editor Kristine Ong Muslim, comics editor Adan Jimenez and I want quality literary writing with elements of the fantastic, which is in some way connected with the cultures, traditions, mythologies, folk religions, and/or daily life in Southeast Asia. While we are happy to look at works by writers outside of the region, we want to actively encourage Southeast Asian writers to submit your work.

In each issue, we publish an average of five short stories and seven poems, and we’re now including more comics and creative non-fiction as well. Our contributors have won major literary awards in Singapore, the USA, UK, Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines, and include Dean Francis Alfar, Paolo Bacigalupi, John Burdett, Zen Cho, Sabrina Huang, Eka Kurniawan, Amanda Lee Koe, Ken Liu, E.C. Myers, Ng Yi-Sheng, Victor Fernando R. Ocampo, Geoff Ryman, Christina Sng, Cyril Wong, Bryan Thao Worra, and J.Y. Yang.

If you would like to contribute your work, please visit our submissions portal and send us your very best writing. You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter.

We also have a Patreon page! You can now directly support the efforts of the journal, and there are tiers of rewards depending on how much you pledge. We are aiming to become completely self-sufficient, and you can be part of this exciting venture. Become a LONTAR patron today!
