In addition to being an author and anthologist of strange fiction, a part-time book editor for Epigram Books, and the founding editor of a biannual literary journal, I also offer freelance editorial and consulting services. I am currently based in Singapore for physical meet-ups, and also accept projects from outside the country via email and Skype.
Textual Content Creation
Rates are negotiable via email depending on the length and complexity of the project. My experience includes fiction from flash fiction up to novels, as well as a variety of non-fiction articles, short reflective pieces, author interviews, peer-edited academic papers, and more than 50 book reviews in multiple genres.
Rate is $100/hour, with every 25,000 words requiring approximately 4-5 billable hours of labor. An editorial letter of recommendations and suggested changes is provided at the end of the project.
Books I have edited have won the Singapore Literature Prize, been longlisted for the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award, made multiple year’s best lists in 2012, 2013 and 2014 (The Straits Times, The Business Times, Singapore Poetry, etc.), and been selected by The Business Times as one of the Top Ten English Singapore books from 1965–2015.
Creative Writing Workshops
I am available to conduct workshops both in general creative writing and in more specialised speculative fiction writing. Classes are typically capped at 15 people, with rates at around $75 per individual two-hour workshop; length and size of workshops (and subsequently fees) are negotiable. For online workshops outside of Singapore, I employ Google+ Hangouts. More about my teaching background and experience can be found on this page.
Public Speaking / Panel Discussant
My knowledge and expertise is specialized within the field of speculative fiction (which includes fantasy, science fiction, and most subgenres of the fantastic). I have appeared on panel discussions at festivals such as the George Town Literary Festival (2016), AWP Conference & Bookfair (2015), the Singapore Literature Festival in NYC (2014), the Singapore International Translation Symposium (2014), the Singapore Writers Festival (2012-2014, 2016), and the All In! Young Writers Media Festival (2013); academic conferences such as The International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts (2003, 2005); and conventions such as WisCon (2005, 2006), Trinoc*con (2003-2006), and DemiCon (2006). I have also given plenary talks and discussions for the Creative Arts Programme (2012), the GEB Literature Seminar (2012), and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (2012). My standard rate for either type of event is $300 per one-hour slot.
